Pantop Injection contains Pantoprazole (40 mg or 80 mg, as Pantoprazole Sodium Sesquihydrate) in an intravenous (IV) formulation. It is used for the treatment of severe acid-related disorders, especially when oral administration is not possible.
✅ Severe Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) – Reduces acid reflux, esophagitis, and heartburn.
✅ Peptic Ulcers (Gastric & Duodenal Ulcers) – Aids in ulcer healing and prevents complications.
✅ Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome – Treats conditions that cause excessive stomach acid production.
✅ Erosive Esophagitis – Prevents acid-induced damage to the esophagus.
✅ Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding – Used in bleeding ulcers to reduce further acid damage.
✅ Critical Care Patients (Surgery/ICU) – Given when oral medication is not feasible.
⚠️ Do not use if allergic to Pantoprazole or other PPIs.
⚠️ Use with caution in patients with severe liver disease, osteoporosis, or magnesium deficiency.
⚠️ Long-term use may increase fracture risk (hip, spine, or wrist fractures in older adults).
⚠️ Monitor magnesium levels if used for a long duration (low magnesium can cause muscle spasms, irregular heartbeat).
⚠️ Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use only if prescribed by a doctor.
🔹 Common: Injection site pain, redness, nausea, headache, dizziness, diarrhea, or constipation.
🔹 Rare (Seek Medical Help): Severe allergic reactions, irregular heartbeat, low magnesium, severe diarrhea (Clostridium difficile infection).
🚫 Avoid with antifungal drugs (ketoconazole), blood thinners (warfarin), HIV medications, and certain antibiotics.
💊 May reduce absorption of essential vitamins & minerals (e.g., calcium, iron, vitamin B12).
🔹 Note: Pantop Injection is meant for hospital use and is usually replaced by oral Pantoprazole tablets once the patient stabilizes. Always follow the doctor’s instructions for proper dosage and duration.
