The Lipikind-F Tablet falls within the category of medications known as antilipemics, or lipid-lowering medications. These medications are mostly used to treat high lipid levels, such as blood vessel blockage and cholesterol and triglyceride levels, as well as to avoid heart disease. High levels of low-density lipoproteins (LDL), or bad cholesterol, and low levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL), or good cholesterol, are associated with a condition known as hyperlipidemia or hypertriglyceridemia. A higher risk of heart attack and stroke in the future is associated with higher levels of unhealthy cholesterol, particularly in individuals with heart disease.

The two medications that make up Lipikind-F Tablet are Fenofibrate (fibrates) and Atorvastatin (an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor). The lipid-lowering drug atorvastatin reduces the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which the body needs to produce cholesterol. Consequently, it raises levels of good cholesterol (high-density lipoproteins, or HDL) and decreases bad cholesterol (low-density lipoproteins, or LDL) and triglycerides (TG). Another medication that lowers cholesterol is fenofibrate; it does this by raising the amount of lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme that naturally breaks down fats in the blood and increases the body’s ability to use and dispose them. Consequently, it raises levels of HDL (good cholesterol) and lowers dangerous cholesterol such as triglycerides (TG) and LDL (bad cholesterol).
